Tom Cronje

Tom Cronje began his geological career in 1989, joining Gold Fields SA's GFTS program as a Learner Official. He earned his National Higher Diploma in Economic Geology from Technicon Witwatersrand in 1992. The following year, he was recruited as a Geological Technician at Northam Platinum.

In 1995, Tom transitioned to JCI at the Western Areas Gold mine, contributing to the VCR orebody project before advancing to the role of Shaft Sinking Geologist for the South Deep Shafts. In 1997, he leveraged his expertise to found Tom Cronje and Associates, offering consultancy services in water sealing and rock consolidation utilizing Industrial Synthetic Oils (ISO).

Tom's journey continued as he rejoined Northam Platinum as a Senior Geologist in 1999, subsequently taking his talents to Messina Platinum and Lonmin. His leadership qualities were recognized in 2006 with his promotion to Manager of Geology at Baobab and Karee Shafts.

His career path took a strategic turn in 2011 when he accepted the role of Mineral Resources Manager at International Ferro Metals – SA, where he stayed until 2015. The following year, Tom's skill set was further acknowledged when he was enlisted by Synntech Projects Zambia. His ability to lead and innovate led to his appointment as the Head of Hydrogeology and, subsequently, as Technical Services Manager at the Mufulira operation of Mopani Copper Mines.

In 2020, Tom's extensive experience culminated in his appointment as the Technical Services Manager at Barberton Mines, a position he held with distinction until 2023. Currently, Tom is spearheading the BML Project Department, showcasing his ability to initiate and manage large-scale projects through to 2024.
